Mobile Welfare Unit Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Welfare Unit?

A Welfare Unit is a self-contained portable facility that provides essential amenities for workers at construction sites, remote locations, or temporary projects. These units typically include toilets, washing facilities, a rest area, and often a small kitchen. They are designed to comply with UK health and safety regulations, ensuring workers have access to necessary amenities while on site.

  • What types of Welfare Units are available?

There are several types of Welfare Units available, including:

    • Mobile Welfare Units: These are trailer-based and can be easily moved from one site to another.
    • Static Welfare Units: These are larger, container-style units that remain stationary on a site for extended periods.
    • Eco Welfare Units: These are environmentally friendly units designed to reduce carbon footprint through features like solar panels and energy-efficient systems.
  • What should I consider when choosing a Welfare Unit?

When choosing a Welfare Unit, consider the following factors:

    • Size and Capacity: Ensure the unit can accommodate the number of workers on your site.
    • Facilities Provided: Check that the unit includes all necessary amenities such as toilets, washing facilities, rest areas, and kitchen facilities.
    • Portability: Decide if you need a mobile or static unit based on the nature and duration of your project.
    • Compliance: Ensure the unit complies with UK health and safety regulations.
    • Eco-friendliness: Consider units with eco-friendly features to reduce environmental impact.
  • How much does it cost to hire or buy a Welfare Unit?

The cost of hiring or buying a Welfare Unit varies based on several factors, including the type and size of the unit, the duration of hire, and additional features or customisations. Hiring a basic mobile welfare unit may start from around £300-£500 per week, while purchasing a unit can range from £10,000 to over £30,000 depending on specifications.

  • What regulations must Welfare Units comply with in the UK?

Welfare Units in the UK must comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), which mandate that workers have access to adequate welfare facilities. This includes:

    • Sanitary Conveniences: Clean and properly maintained toilets.
    • Washing Facilities: Including hot and cold running water, soap, and means of drying.
    • Rest Areas: Suitable rest areas with seating and tables.
    • Drinking Water: Readily accessible drinking water.
    • Changing Rooms and Lockers: If workers need to change into protective clothing.

Ensure any Welfare Unit you hire or purchase meets these regulatory requirements to provide a safe and compliant working environment.

Here’s what our customers say about the using Vinco.

Working with Danielle and the team at Vinco has been an absolute pleasure. From initial specification of our container conversion, we were supported fully with detailed drawings of our ideas, which allowed us to make informed decisions and realise our project goals. Danielle and the team worked tirelessly to ensure our ideas were understood, visualised and realised during manufacturing, for which we are very grateful. Communication was outstanding. We would most certainly recommend Vinco and their skilled engineers for any container conversion you may be considering, our container was to a very high specification and we couldn’t be more pleased with the craftsmanship. Well done and thanks to everyone involved in realising this project for us.

From start to delivery of our container I can't fault my dealings with Vinco. We worked with them to design and spec out a 20ft container and they have delivered beyond our expectations. Amazing team and workmanship.

After looking at lots of different options for a container fit-out for our terrace kitchen, we finally sided with Vinco after they were recommended to me. We were short on time and still had lots of planning to do in terms of the design and final layout of the unit. Danielle was an absolute superstar, from our first interaction she filled me with confidence that the project could be delivered on time and (when compared to other companies) at a very reasonable cost. Her customer service was impeccable and she managed the project brilliantly! We're really happy with the finished product & would 100% use them again.

Vinco were fantastic throughout the whole process - very competitively priced (and we compared detailed quotes from a number of local and nationwide suppliers) and very flexible to changing requirements. What really made the difference was the way that all the staff we dealt with really went the extra mile to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. Would give 6 stars if I could.

The recent £1.8m Hereford Cycle Track at Hereford Leisure Centre required a solution for cycle storage, accessible toilets and a small social hub. Various options were proposed but we feel fortunate to have met the Team at Vinco who helped guide us towards what we feel was the best solution within our budget. Nothing was too much trouble and we have since purchased additional storage as our fleet of adaptive cycles has already increased. We are already scoping another project where Vinco Services will be called upon and we would not hesitate to recommend the Vinco team
